Daily sending limits
Mail Merge sends every email through your own Gmail account, so two limits apply at the same time: the limit of your Mail Merge plan, and the limit Google sets on your Gmail account. You can send up to whichever is lower.
Your daily limit
Section titled “Your daily limit”| Your plan | @gmail.com address | Google Workspace address |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 50 per day | 50 per day |
| Personal | 250 per day | 250 per day |
| Professional | 500 per day | 1,500 per day |
A free @gmail.com account can never send more than about 500 emails per day. That is Google’s limit, not ours, and no Mail Merge plan can raise it. To send up to 1,500 per day you need the Professional plan and a Google Workspace (business) address.
Every recipient counts: an email with one person in CC and one in BCC uses 3 of your daily emails (see Multiple recipients).
The web app shows how many emails you have left today in the Daily sending limit block on the campaign page. The counter covers a rolling 24-hour window that starts with your first send, so it does not always reset at midnight.
What happens when you reach it
Section titled “What happens when you reach it”- A campaign that does not fit is not sent. Mail Merge shows a warning instead of starting a campaign that would stop halfway.
- A scheduled campaign that no longer fits on its day is postponed automatically to the next day when enough of your limit is free.
- If Gmail itself refuses to send (for example because your account’s real limit is lower than expected), Mail Merge pauses the campaign and its rows show Cooldown. It resumes on its own once Gmail allows sending again. You do not need to do anything.
Sending more than your daily limit
Section titled “Sending more than your daily limit”Use Autopilot (Professional plan): it sends a long list over several days, never going above the number of emails per day you set. For example, 1,500 recipients at 500 per day are sent in 3 days. You can also split your list into several campaigns and schedule them on different days.
New Google Workspace accounts start at 500 per day
Section titled “New Google Workspace accounts start at 500 per day”Google gives a new Workspace account the same 500 emails per day as a free Gmail account. The higher limit starts automatically only after:
- your Workspace account has paid Google at least $100 USD in total, and then
- up to 75 more days have passed.
This is Google’s rule, and neither you nor Mail Merge can speed it up. On a single-user Starter plan, reaching $100 takes several months. See Google’s page: Gmail sending limits in Google Workspace.
Until then, Mail Merge already allows up to 1,500 per day for a Workspace address, but Gmail stops at 500: campaigns that go above it are paused in Cooldown and continue the next day. To avoid that, keep a new Workspace account at 500 per day, for example with Autopilot.
